First Amendment Wrongs

first amendment

Let me explain something about the First Amendment: Your right to free speech does not impinge upon my right to reject you.
It does not offer you anonymity.
It does not shield you from reprisal.
It does not compel me to listen to you or to grant you space.
It only prevents Congress from outlawing acts of speech. You can’t be jailed for what you say. You can nevertheless be held to account for your intentions.
Almost no one understands this.
Almost no one reads the Amendment.
History has been reduced to a matter of opinion.
Public education is an underfunded free-for-all of provincial attitudes.
College is dismissed as expensive and elitist. Knowledge has a liberal bias.
We are a nation taught primarily by video, all convinced of our own special genius.
We are dumber than our founders by a long shot.
